Addiction

It's surprising how addicted you can get to a computer during your studies here in the US - lack of a television, unlimited internet connectivity and the occupational hazard of being a software engineer being the prime culprits in growing and sustaining that addiction, of course. There's hardly a significant time of the day when you can be (or want to be) away from the computer. Of the time that I am awake, I would easily be able to narrow down the specific times of the day in minutes, not even complete hours, when I am actually not using a computer at all. Using a computer for such a long time wouldn't in itself be a bad thing (although there exists such a thing as CRRSI) but what makes me call it an addiction is the surprisingly small fraction of it that gets put to productive work.

That's it. I am shutting this thing down now (or at least I am about to try).

A reason to blog...

Kartikeya's blog A Cricketing View has been nominated for the Indibloggies in the Best Sports IndiBlog category. If you haven't yet been there, do have a read - and vote if you like it.

It is ironic that this blog remains neglected by its author when he was infact of some help (and if he may ever so shamelessly add, a minor inspiration :)) in setting up Cricketing View in the first place! So, just as an excuse to avoid work on a brilliant cloudy day in the desert that begs everything apart from working in a dull cubicle, I try to lay down here some necessary conditions that keep a blog going:
  1. You need a theme blog so you have something to write (rather than "anything", which often translates to "nothing")
  2. Or have the time, patience, and will to read around enough so that you can have a justifiable opinion about things ranging from Anna Nicole Smith's mysterious death to Iran's nuclear ambitions.
  3. Or post arbitrary brain dumps
I hardly satisfy any of the above, hence the sorry state of affairs...
